DistributionNative to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.In the Hawaiian Islands, naturalized on Kaua`i, O`ahu, Moloka`i, Maui.

Leaves
Leaves membranous, blades 2.5-8.5 cm long, 3.2-9.7 cm wide, 3-lobed, glabrous and glaucous, especially on lower surface, petioles with 2-4 usually paired, stipitate nectaries ca. 1 mm long, stipules oblong-ovate, auriculate, 20-33 mm long, 7-13 mm wide.
Flowers
Flowers campanulate, 3.2-6.5 cm in diameter, peduncles solitary; hypanthium 0.4-0.7 cm long; sepals green, inner ones with white margins, lanceolate, with a subapical awn ca. 8 mm long on lower surface; petals white; corona white, filamentous, up to 2 cm long.
Fruit
Berries yellowish green, somewhat glaucous, ovate to globose, 1.8-4 cm in diameter.
