Habit
Suffruticose perennial herbs; stems decumbent, rooting along lower surface, occasionally erect or ascending, 5-15(-40) dm long.
Leaves
Leaves somewhat fleshy, appearing shrunken and wrinkled in dry material, linear to elliptic-ovate, 6-12.5(-16) cm long, (1-)2-4(-6.5) cm wide, glabrous to strigillose, margins entire to serrate, petioles 0.2-1 cm long, with winged margins.
Flowers
Heads in simple or compound cymes; outer involucral bracts occasionally purple near apex, ovate, 3.2-5 mm long, 1.5-3.8 mm wide, sparsely strigillose, apex acute; chaffy bracts occasionally purple near apex; ray florets 9-15 per head, rays ovate to oblong, (3.8-)4.5-6(-7) mm long, (1.3-)2.3-3.3 mm wide; disk florets 25-40(-50) per head, corollas 4-merous, 3.1-3.7 mm long; anthers 1.3-1.5 mm long; pappus of connate scales forming an uneven corona tipped with short deciduous awns.
Fruit
Achenes nearly smooth with a thick corky layer, ray achenes 2.3-2.7 mm long, 1.2-1.7 mm wide, with wings ca. 0.5 mm long, disk achenes 2.2-2.9 mm long, 1.1-1.4 mm wide, with wings ca. 0.6 mm long.
