Habit
Shrubs 1-3.2 m tall; stems unbranched or sparingly branched, muricate.
Leaves
Leaves with upper portion of blade pinnately divided, 0.2-1.5 cm wide between the segments, segments lanceolate or rarely narrowly elliptic; blade 27-58 cm long, 14-32 cm wide (across the segments), upper surface glabrous, rarely sparsely pubescent or muricate, lower surface glabrous or muricate along the midrib, rarely densely pubescent, segments 9-12 per side, oblong, lanceolate, narrowly triangular, or narrowly ovate, 0.8-5 cm wide, apex acuminate, apiculate, margins of segments irregularly lobed to irregularly cleft, the lobes acute to obtuse, apiculate, petioles 8-32 cm long, muricate.
Flowers
Inflorescences 6-12-flowered, peduncles 15-75 mm long, pedicels 20-50 mm long, bracts linear to lanceolate or narrowly oblong, 12-35 mm long, 1-3 mm wide; hypanthium obconic, base attenuate, 7-16 mm long, 3-8 mm wide; calyx lobes ovate to lanceolate, overlapping at base, 15-30 mm long, 4-10 mm wide; corolla purplish or greenish to yellowish white, often suffused or striped with magenta, 4-7.5 times longer than the hypanthium, dorsal lobes 15-32 mm long, 1/3-2/3 as long as the tube, 5-10 mm wide, broadest at base, tapering toward both apex, glabrous or very sparsely pubescent, rarely densely pubescent, tube curved or somewhat arcuate, lobes spreading, 1/4-1/2 as long as the tube; staminal column glabrous, 3.5-4.5 mm diameter; anthers glabrous at base, dorsal anthers 9-14 mm long, ventral ones 7.5-10 mm long, all five anthers pubescent at apex.
Fruit
Berries orange, obovoid to ellipsoid, 18-30 mm long, 8-15 mm wide, crowned by the persistent calyx lobes.
