Habit
|
Annual herb, 3‒5(‒15) dm tall; stem unbranched or branched above, distal stem and inflorescence strigillose, often densely so.

Leaves
|
Leaves elliptic to oblanceolate or ovate, 5‒18 cm long, 1‒6(‒10) cm wide, pinnately lobed with a large terminal lobe to subentire, margin coarsely and irregularly dentate.

Flowers
|
Heads with involucral bracts 8‒10 mm long; florets red to reddish orange; pappus white, ca. 12 mm long.

Fruit
|
Achenes reddish brown, ca. 2 mm long, sparsely puberulent between the ribs.
