General Information
DistributionNative to Eurasia, widely naturalized.
Habit
Matted, short-lived perennial herbs with short, depressed, basal, lateral shoots; stems 3-7 dm long, hirsute to sometimes glandular.
Leaves
Leaves oblanceolate to oblong or elliptic-ovate, 10-25 mm long, 3-10 mm wide, both surfaces conspicuously hirsute, sessile.
Flowers
Flowers in terminal, rather compact, dichotomous cymes, but in fruit becoming more open and the lower pedicels divergent to reflexed and 2-4 times as long as calyx; sepals 3-6.5 mm long, hirsute, margins scarious; petals white, 4-5 mm long, apex slightly cleft.
Fruit
Capsules cylindrical, curved, 9-12 mm long.
Seeds
Seeds reddish brown, 0.4-0.8 mm long, tuberculate.
