Flora of the Hawaiian Islands --Type Information

Note: Nom. illegit., non L. longisepala Forrest (1908). Additional syntypes: 3-8 May 1909, C. N. Forbes & C. M. Cooke s.n. (BISH!); 10-13 May, C. N. Forbes & C. L. Thompson s.n. (BISH!). Forbes cited flowering material collected with Rock in September. However, the flowering material was apparently collected in November, rather than September, as one of the two sheets at BISH has the November date and the other sheet has no date. Forbes's field book does not have any record of a September trip to the Punaluu Mountains, but there is a record of a November trip there. Also, there is a sheet of Rock 815 (of L. forbesii) at BISH with the same locality and November date. Forbes also cited fruiting material collected "eight months later... in the company of Dr. C. M. Cooke and Mr. C. L. Thompson." These specimens were apparently collected in May (eight months from September, not November), as Forbes's field book indicates that he made a trip to the Punaluu Mountains accompanied by Cooke and Thompson that month. One of the additional syntypes has no date on the original label and has Rock's name as a collector, but since it is a fruiting specimen it must have been collected with Cooke or Thompson, who were not both with Forbes at the same time.
