Tetraplasandra kavaiensis (H. Mann) Sherff var. robustior Sherff, Bot. Leafl. 7: 12. 1952.
Type information:
Holotype [BISH]. A.A. Heller 2884. 10-16 September 1895. Kaua`i: above Waimea, on [above] Kaholuamanu, [on brow of plateau].3500ft. Isotype(s) [BISH!].

Note: Collection 2884, pro parte. Published as "kauaiensis" by Sherff but as "kavaiensis" by H. Mann. Other material distributed under Heller 2884 was collected 11-16 October (A [photo F], GH, MO!, US!). There is a discrepancy between the published date and the date on the holotype. Both Heller and Sherff cited 16 October, but Sherff clearly designated the BISH sheet dated 10-16 September as the holotype. Probable isotypes (none seen, cited by Sherff): BH, F, PH, UC. Possible isotypes (seen by Lowry, not cited by Sherff): BM, CM, K, L.
