Nototrichium fulvum Schinz , Vierteljahrsschr. Naturf. Ges. Zürich 76: 142. 1931.
Type information:
Holotype [Z]. A.A. Heller 2831. 24-30 September 1895. Kaua`i: Kaholuamanu, above Waimea, between forks of Waimea River [on exposed slope on ridge up to Kaholuamanu at 2500 ft]. Isotype(s) [BISH!, MO! [photo F], NY [photos BISH!, F], US! [photos BISH!, F]].

Note: Collection 2831, pro parte. Heller described material under this collection number as being from two locations; smaller shrub with mostly obtuse, elliptic leaves on exposed slope on ridge up to Kaholuamanu at 2500 ft and larger shrub with acute, elliptic-lanceolate leaves from shaded site between forks along the Waimea River. He listed only September 24 as collection date. The holotype of N. fulvum based on Schinz's description is the sun form collected on the slope. Sherff saw material of both forms and used the two gatherings as the basis for the type of Nototrichium sandwicense var. decipiens (sun form) and N. sandwicense var. helleri (shade form); thus, the material Sherff saw of the former serve as the isotypes of N. fulvum. One additional collection made on 10-16 September was distributed under Heller 2831.
