Gouldia ovata (Wawra) Skottsb. var. lydgatei (Fosberg) O. Deg. & I. Deg., Phytologia 7: 466. 1961. Flora of the Hawaiian Islands --Basionym
Type Information
Gouldia terminalis (Hook. & Arn.) Hillebr. f. lydgatei Fosberg, Bernice P. Bishop Mus. Bull. 147: 53 1937.
Maui: Hamakua. 1851- 1871. W. Hillebrand and J.M. Lydgate 126.
Holotype [BISH].

Note: The sheet containing the holotype represents a mixed collection of three different specimens. The twig in the upper left is not a Rubiaceae; the twig in the upper right is apparently from a different locality; only the twig in the lower left is the holotype. The publication indicates that there is a photo of the type at BISH, but it could not be located (RKS, 8/95). There is a photo of a sheet that Fosberg labelled "isotype," but it cannot be an isotype because it is from O`ahu, and the type was collected on Maui.
