Geranium cuneatum Hook. subsp. hololeucum (A. Gray) Carlquist & Bissing, Biotropica 8: 258. 1976. Flora of the Hawaiian Islands --Basionym
Type Information
Geranium cuneatum Hook. var. hololeucum A. Gray, U. S. Expl. Exped., Phan. 312 1854.
Hawai`i: [Mouna Kea]. 1840. U. S. Expl. Exped. s.n..
Lectotype [US]. Lectotypified in H. St. John. Rhodora 87: 571. 1985.

Note: Gray also cited "also Mouna [Mauna] Loa... East part of Maui, on the banks of the crater Haleakala." St. John did not cite a sheet number, and although he designated the Mauna Kea collection, the only sheet that could be found at US is labeled "Maui" (and was not annotated by St. John). The GH database record does not have any locality data. Since this taxon does not occur on Maui, it is not clear whether St. John took the US sheet labeled Maui to be the Mauna Kea collection, or whether the lectotype is a (now missing) sheet labeled Mauna Kea.
