Note: St. John's lectotypification on Mann & Brigham 97 (Rhodora 87: 590. 1985) is TOTALLY BOGUS since that collection was made at least two years after Gray published the name (Hitchcock, 1933, also cited Mann & Brigham 97 as the type). Syntypes: "Oahu, Macrae, Nuttall, Remy, no. 425. Sand-hills of Maui, Dr. Pickering and Mr. Breckenridge. Kauai, Nuttall." US syntype has no locality data.
