Habit
Decumbent, sprawling, or weakly rhizomatous shrubs 0.3-2(-3) m tall.
Leaves
Leaves persistent, coriaceous, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, 4-9 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, margins serrate, usually glabrous at maturity, occasionally glandular, rarely puberulent.
Flowers
Pedicels 1-3 cm long; calyx often minutely puberulent especially prior to anthesis, the lobes lanceolate, longer than the tube at anthesis; corolla red with greenish lobes, green with red stripes, greenish yellow with pink stripes, or pink with greenish lobes, urceolate to cylindrical, 9-12 mm long.
Fruit
Berries bright red to scarlet, edible, 8-10 mm in diameter.
Seeds
Seeds small and numerous (80-140).
