Stems 1-1.5(-2.5) dm long, all stems cylindrical or sometimes some of the upper ones slightly flattened, similar in width, second internode 7-12(-16) mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, others usually 6-15(-25) mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, nerves inconspicuous. Axils decussate, sometimes oblique.
Flower groups forming a continuous band around the stem, sometimes confined to the axils in young material.
This species is very closely related to Korthalsella cylindrica. It differs primarily in having decussate, rather than distichous, leaf axils.
