DistributionNearly pantropical.
Habit
Glabrous to glandular puberulent annual herbs; stems prostrate and spreading, sometimes weakly erect, often rooting at the nodes.
Leaves
Leaves reniform to suborbicular, 5-25 mm long, 5-30 mm wide, glabrous to sparsely puberulent, apex rounded or occasionally mucronulate, petioles 2-15 mm long, stipules divided to base into linear segments ca. 2 mm long, persistent.
Flowers
Flowers few to numerous in terminal or axillary cymes, rarely solitary in the leaf axils, pedicels 2-15 mm long, subglabrous or with a ring of glandular hairs; sepals lanceolate to ovate, 2.5-4 mm long, glabrous to glandular puberulent, margins scarious; petals 2-3 mm long, deeply lobed, the lobes linear; stamens 2-3(-5); styles 3, distinct nearly to base or connate 1/2 their length.
Fruit
Capsules ovoid, 1.5-2.5 mm long, 3-valved.
Seeds
Seeds 1-12, dark reddish brown, cochleate, 1-1.5 mm long, the surface with rows of low tubercles.
