Habit
Terrestrial or rarely epiphytic shrubs or trees 1-6 m tall.
Leaves
Leaves elliptic or oblanceolate, blades 4-15 cm long, 1.5-4.5 cm wide, upper surface green, glabrous, lower surface pale green, glabrous or pubescent, margins callose-crenulate, apex acute, acuminate, or cuspidate, base cuneate or attenuate, petioles 0.2-4 cm long.
Flowers
Inflorescences 2(-5)-flowered, pendulous, peduncles 20-110 mm long, pedicels 18-65 mm long; hypanthium turbinate or obovoid, 10-17 mm long, 10-20 mm wide; perianth greenish, purplish, maroon, or rose, curved to arcuate, distinctly tubular, 55-80 mm long, 7-20 mm wide, glabrous, the lobes (except the dorsal) erect or downcurved slightly, 1/5-1/3 as long as the tube; staminal column purple or magenta, glabrous; anthers purple, glabrous.
Fruit
Berries orange, obovoid to subglobose, 16-26 mm long, 10-20 mm wide.
