Habit
Terrestrial or epiphytic trees or shrubs 1.5-8 m tall.
Leaves
Leaves oblong, elliptic, or oblanceolate, blades 10-23 cm long, 2-6.5 cm wide, upper surface dark green, glossy, glabrous, lower surface greenish white, glabrous or sparsely pubescent along the veins, margins callose-crenulate, apex obtuse, acute, acuminate, or cuspidate, base cuneate to attenuate, petioles 1.5-8 cm long.
Flowers
Inflorescences 1-2-flowered, peduncles 4-18 mm long, pedicels 12-40 mm long; hypanthium hemispherical or obconical, 10-20 mm long, 10-20 mm wide; calyx lobes triangular, deltate, shallowly triangular, oblong, or ovate, 3-40 mm long, 3-10 mm wide, apex acute, obtuse, or emarginate and often apiculate; corolla greenish externally, greenish white or magenta within, 55-85 mm long, 8-18 mm wide, glabrous or rarely pubescent, the tube suberect to curved, the lobes thick, succulent, arcuate, the sinuses separating each lateral lobe from the 3 ventral lobes 3-5 times longer than the sinuses among the ventral lobes; staminal column magenta, included within corolla, glabrous; anthers dark purple, glabrous or rarely sparsely pubescent.
Fruit
Berries orange, subglobose to obovoid, 25-40 mm long, 25-40 mm wide.
