Habit
|
Stoloniferous perennial, rarely rhizomatous, rhizomes when present 3‒5 cm long; culms 7‒80 cm tall, nodes densely pubescent.

Leaves
|
Leaves with sheath keeled, strongly compressed, pubescent; ligule 0.3‒0.5 mm; blade 5‒15 cm long, 3‒20 mm wide, glabrous or sparsely pilose, midvein often white and prominent, apex
frequently ciliate or pubescent, margin ciliate.

Flowers
|
Inflorescences terminal and axillary
panicles, 4‒10 cm overall, rachises to 3.5 cm, with (2)3(‒5) racemes 1‒13 cm long. Spikelets 2‒3.5 mm, ovoid, ellipsoid, or lanceoloid-acuminate; distal glumes and proximal lemmas extending beyond the distal florets, 2‒5-veined, marginal veins pilose, apex acute to acuminate; distal
lemmas and paleas 1.5‒1.8 mm, broadly
ellipsoid.
